Oil Free Granola Recipes – Low Sugar, Homemade & Healthy

December 4, 2024 by Amber

These eight sugar free and oil free granola recipes are naturally sweetened with dates, honey, or maple syrup and then baked in the oven or air fryer for perfectly crunchy and oil-free homemade granola. I was inspired to create all of these healthy granola recipes that are oil free and refined sugar free, as the combination of processed oils and refined sugar are among the worst foods for people struggling with blood sugar balance.

My fasting blood sugar will increase if I consistently eat foods high in oils and refined sugar, such as baked goods. Many store-bought granolas are also packed with oils and processed sugar; thus, I have been making my own homemade granola recipes that are both oil and refined sugar free. Instead, I used natural sweeteners to coat oats, nuts, and seeds to make the most delicious and healthy oil free granola.

Both refined oils and sugar are deficient in nutrients yet contain ample empty calories. Nutrients such as B vitamins and magnesium are crucial for the metabolism of glucose and healthy blood sugar levels, but they are not found in oils and table sugar. Many people are overconsuming calories yet not getting sufficient vitamins and minerals required for optimal health.

The key to making the best tasting oil free granola in the oven is to mix a natural sweetener of your choice with vanilla extract to coat the dried oats. You will notice that I used lots of vanilla extract in the recipes as it helps to crisp up the granola, which is what oil helps to do.

The date sweetened granola recipes are baked in the air fryer at a low temperature for a bit longer to dry up the date paste that is used to sweeten the granola. Both the healthy air fryer granola recipes with dates are perfectly crunchy and among my favorite oil free and sugar free granola recipes.

All these easy oil free granola recipes take minimal time to prepare. Then it’s just baking time and storing. As you busy yourself in the kitchen or are making a dinner meal, you can prepare and bake these oil free granola recipes, which are perfect for a healthy, quick breakfast. To ensure the granola stays fresh, store it in an airtight container at room temperature. This way, you can enjoy your homemade granola for several weeks.

My mornings are now busy with getting my little girl off to preschool, so I often prepare a variation of this yogurt fruit bowl with one of these oil free granola recipes for a healthy breakfast that I can take with me to eat after preschool drop off. I am often not hungry immediately upon waking, but come mid-morning when I am already out of the house, these oil free granolas with plain yogurt and fruit is a simple, healthy breakfast that I love.

I enjoy all of these refined sugar free granola recipes on repeat weekly, and I almost always have one type stocked in my cupboards as my family loves them all, too. I hope you enjoy them as much as my family and I do!

All of these granola recipes can be found in my Oil Free Granola Recipes E-book that you can subscribe to access in my library of free E-books. All the E-books are designed to be downloaded or printed on standard paper to create your own recipe book binder.

#1 Oil Free Granola with Flax Seeds

Oil free granola in a wooden bowl with a tea towel and plant on the side.

This five-ingredient oil free granola recipe is packed with fiber-rich oats and ground flax seeds, then spiced with cinnamon and vanilla extract and naturally sweetened with maple syrup. The easy oil free granola for weight loss is made without calorie dense oils yet contains healthy omega-3 fats, which are essential nutrients for the body and beneficial for providing satiety.

I added flax seeds as they are an excellent source of magnesium, fiber, and essential omega-3 fats that are anti-inflammatory and great for brain health and weight loss. Many people need to add more omega-3 fats to their diet while reducing their intake of omega-6 fats. Most people consume too many omega-6 fats in processed oils but need more omega-3 fats.

#2 Healthy Chocolate Granola

This healthy chocolate granola recipe perfectly combines crunchy, nutty, and chocolatey goodness. It’s addictive and satisfies a chocolate craving. The vegan chocolate granola is easy to make, oil-free, naturally sweetened with maple syrup, and made with wholesome, nutritious ingredients.

I specifically made this chocolate granola recipe oil-free, yet it contains ample healthy fats from the walnuts, pumpkin, and sunflower seeds. Because I am always thinking about the nutritional content of the food, I added walnuts to get a plant-based source of the essential omega-3 fats that are fantastic for brain health.

#3 Low Fodmap Granola

The low fodmap granola is oil-free yet still crisps up beautifully. Oils are almost always added to granola recipes, but they are unnecessary for those who want to avoid calorie-dense and processed oils. Instead, this oil free granola is coated with maple syrup and vanilla extract, which, when baked perfectly, crisps up the granola for a crunchy granola that does not stick together in large chunks.

I added low fodmap seeds, including pumpkin and sunflower seeds, for unprocessed, healthy fats and protein and added texture. This low fodmap granola recipe is free of high fodmap sweeteners such as honey and high fructose corn syrup found in many commercial granolas. Maple syrup is my favorite low-fodmap sweetener, and I used it in this fodmap-free granola recipe.

#4 Ginger Bread Granola

This festive oil-free ginger bread granola is the perfect crunchy treat to add to your holiday mornings. It is packed with warming gingerbread spices, maple syrup, honey, and dried cranberries for a wholesome and delicious way to enjoy the flavors of the holiday season.

There’s nothing like the aroma of homemade granola baking in the oven, especially during the holidays. This ginger bread granola is the perfect winter granola recipe that is sweet, crunchy, and wholesome. The refined sugar free granola is made with natural sweeteners like maple syrup, honey, and molasses to make it a healthy Christmas granola without sacrificing flavor. Almonds and pumpkin seeds add an extra crunch, while the dried cranberries add a pop of color and extra gooey sweetness.

#5 Chocolate Air Fryer Granola

If you’re looking for a sugar free and oil free chocolate granola, this recipe is for you! This sugar free chocolate granola is made with wholesome ingredients, naturally sweetened with dates, and baked in an air fryer for a perfectly light and airy crunchy granola.

The key to making this crunchy yet oil free and sugar free chocolate granola is to bake it in an air fryer on low heat to dry out the chocolate date paste used to coat and sweeten the granola. The result is the best tasting healthy air fryer granola that is both oil and refined sugar free.

I added Rice Krispies to this recipe as they help yield that light, airy crunch that I love, but you can also substitute the Rice Krispies with more oats. Cocoa powder blended with dates provides the delicious, rich, chocolatey flavor that we all love, while the almond flakes and walnuts add a crunch of healthy fats.

#6 Date Sweetened Air Fryer Granola

This crunchy air fryer granola is oil free, sugar-free, and full of plant protein and the essential omega-3 fats, which are healthy fats that we all need. The date sweetened air fryer granola recipe is fantastic for weight loss, insulin resistance and healthy blood sugar levels. Plus, it is so delicious and tastes like it has been sweetened with maple syrup, even though only dates, spices, cinnamon, and nutmeg sweeten this granola.

#7 Granola with Rice Krispies – Oil Free, Sugar Free & Healthy

A wooden bowl filled with crunchy homemade granola made with oats, puffed rice cereal, seeds, and clusters, sitting on a gray countertop.

This light and crunchy healthy cinnamon granola with rice krispies is a must-try for a wholesome, naturally sweetened treat. Packed with nutrient-rich seeds like hemp, chia, and pumpkin, it’s high in protein, fiber, and brain-boosting omega-3s.

The combination of quick oats and brown rice krispies creates an ultra-airy texture, making it a household favorite—especially for kids! Naturally sweetened with maple syrup and spiced with cinnamon for added blood sugar support, this granola with rice krispies is perfect for breakfast, snacks, or smoothie bowl toppings. If you’re looking for a delicious and nutritious oil free granola, this is one to add to your list!

#8 Nut Free Granola Recipe

This nut free granola has a light, crispy texture with a subtle vanilla maple sweetness and just a hint of chocolate from the cocoa powder. The combination of rolled oats and rice cereal creates an airy crunch that is different from traditional granola, making it feel lighter and more refreshing while still satisfying.

As an oil free granola recipe, it keeps the ingredients simple while still delivering great texture and flavor. It is naturally sweetened, low fat, and perfect for anyone looking for a homemade nut free granola that is easy to make and allergy friendly.

#9 Yogurt Fruit Bowl with Oil Free Granola

Yogurt granola fruit bowl with strawberries and blueberries

Start your day full of energy with this delicious and nutritious fruit bowl with yogurt and granola, which only takes 5 minutes to prepare. Packed with fresh berries, creamy yogurt, and crunchy granola, this yogurt granola fruit bowl is not only tasty but also balanced and satisfying.

Having granola with yogurt and fruit is perfect for busy mornings, as all you have to do is chop the strawberries, combine all the ingredients into a bowl, mix with a spoon, and enjoy! Any of the oil free granola recipes in this post can be used to make this yogurt fruit bowl.

These granola recipes and yogurt fruit bowl can be found in my Oil Free Granola Recipes E-book that you can subscribe to access in my library of E-books designed to be downloaded and printed on standard paper to create your own recipe book binder. You can also keep a digital copy on your computer for easy access.

Also be sure to check out my other favorite homemade granola recipe. It has just a touch of coconut oil, so while it is not oil free, it is super crispy and another great option if you prefer a more traditional granola.
