Amber Sagal – Nutritional Therapy Consultant
My story starts where I was born in the tiny little town of Grand Forks, located in beautiful British Columbia, Canada. I grew up 20 minutes out of town in a log cabin that my dad built with my parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters where we lived totally off grid. When winter came my parents would pack all us kids into a school bus and drive us down to the Baja in Mexico where we would set up camp on the beach for months at a time.
It was on one of these trips to Mexico that I came across the book Fit For Life which first got me interested in this field of nutrition that I am so passionate about. I remember staying up all throughout the night reading this book and feeling so excited about what I was learning.
I then implemented some of the tips from the book which resulted in me easily and effortlessly losing the extra weight that I carried. I also experienced an internal change in which I felt more confident and comfortable in my own skin as a result of losing the little bit of excess weight that I carried.
I continued reading books on all aspects of health and nutrition but I started to get confused with all the conflicting views and wondered why a specific way of eating worked for one person and not another?
Even though I was eating a fairly healthy diet in comparison to the standard American diet I still had signs and symptoms such as constant bloating no matter what I ate, edema, heartburn, insomnia, mild nausea on occasion, congestion and inflammation in my skin, sugar cravings and random fainting spells. I wanted to understand why I was experiencing these symptoms and what I could do.
My second break through when things really started to change for was when I took a food sensitivity test and found out that I was reacting too many foods (mainly wheat, dairy, soy and msg). I also had high candida and a leaky gut. Through addressing my food sensitivities, detoxing my body, rebalancing my gut flora and finding more balance in my diet my main symptoms disappeared.
A big part of my success was finding more balance in my diet. At the time I was pretty much vegetarian eating a high carbohydrate diet with lots of fruits and vegetables cause that’s healthy right? BUT I was lacking in quality protein and healthy fats.
Around this time period I took a detoxification course where I discovered the perspective of functional nutrition in which I agreed with got results with and wanted to learn more of. After a lot of research and looking into different schools I finally came across the Nutritional Therapy Association.
The information I have learned through the Nutritional Therapy Association has reconfirmed how powerful the diet, nutrition and supporting the body through optimizing the foundations of digestion, fatty acid balance, mineral balance, blood sugar balance and hydration is in preventing so many of the health conditions we see today.
A properly prepared nutrient dense diet that varies according to a person’s unique bio-individuality is key to providing the body with all the nutrients it needs to perform all of its amazing functions that keep us alive, healthy and vibrant.
I utilize an intensive and thorough process to find out where your unique imbalances lie then implement a step by step process with targeted supplements and dietary recommendations tailored to YOU.
