Raspberry Banana Smoothie – Great for Weight Loss & Gut Health

November 19, 2020 by Amber

this post

This five-ingredient raspberry banana smoothie is high in antioxidants and fantastic for weight loss and gut health. If you’re busy and have little free time, this nutritious and delicious smoothie is for you. It comes together in under five minutes and is a powerhouse of nutrients to keep you energized throughout the day.

The raspberry banana smoothie recipe uses frozen raspberries, creamy bananas, almond milk, dates, and collagen powder. Raspberries are an antioxidant-rich fruit that helps reduce inflammation. They are also high in fiber and great for gut health.

Banana provides the perfect creaminess and sweetness to offset the tartness of raspberries. Plant milk, such as almond milk and banana, are key ingredients in creamy smoothies. This combo yields a creamy texture that is still refreshing. I added collagen powder for a boost of protein without changing the taste or texture of the smoothie.

I often buy frozen raspberries to make a fruit smoothie as they are much more affordable than fresh raspberries and a great way to get this high-antioxidant-rich fruit in your diet.

This raspberry banana smoothie recipe is high in antioxidants and fiber, which fuel a healthy gut, reduce inflammation, and promote weight loss. If you are on a low-calorie diet for weight loss, you will be happy to know that this raspberry smoothie only contains 282 calories.

For those tracking their nutritional intake, this smoothie is a winner. According to Cronometer, a reliable app for tracking calories and nutrients, the smoothie packs 14 grams of protein, 45 grams of healthy carbohydrates, 3 grams of fat, and 10 grams of fiber. This fiber-rich smoothie is excellent for gut health, weight loss, and maintaining healthy blood sugar levels.

Raspberry and Banana Smoothie Recipe:

  • 1 cup raspberries
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 2 dates, pitted
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 10 grams of collagen powder

How to make the banana raspberry smoothie:

  1. Peel a fresh banana and break it into chunks.
  2. Add the frozen raspberries, banana chunks, chopped dates, almond milk, and collagen powder into a blender.
  3. Blend everything until smooth and creamy, ensuring no lumps are remaining.
  4. Once blended to perfection, pour your raspberry banana smoothie into a glass and enjoy!

Tips and Substitutions:

  • You can add more banana or plain greek yogurt if you prefer a thicker or creamier consistency.
  • I added 10 grams of collagen for protein, but this can be omitted, or you could also use a plain or vanilla protein powder for an alternative protein source.
  • Maple syrup is another great sweetener that can be used instead of dates to sweeten the smoothie naturally
  • Be sure to use at least one frozen fruit in the healthy smoothie, such as frozen banana or raspberries, to chill the smoothie. If you only use fresh fruit, be sure to add a couple of ice cubes instead.
  • To make a vegan raspberry banana smoothie, omit the collagen powder.

Benefits of the raspberry banana smoothie

A low calorie diet is one of the best ways to reverse fatty liver and type 2 diabetes. Using this low calorie healthy raspberry smoothie for weight loss as a meal replacement is a great way to reduce your overall daily caloric intake.

Bananas are an excellent source of resistant starches to feed probiotic bacteria in the colon. Fiber also helps to make you feel satiated and full which is why high fiber fruits are great for weight loss. There are so many benefits of fiber for gut health too!

This raspberry smoothie recipe is low in fat, and, according to the authors of Mastering Diabetes, a low-fat diet is best to reverse insulin resistance. Both raspberries and bananas are listed as green light foods that are great for improving insulin sensitivity.

Whether you’re in need of a healthy breakfast option, a post-workout pick-me-up, or a delicious snack on the go, this raspberry banana smoothie is the ultimate choice. Packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and protein, it’s a tasty treat and one of my favorite ways to enjoy frozen raspberries.
