Vegan Coconut Bacon Bits

November 18, 2020 by Amber

vegan coconut bacon bits

These perfectly crunchy and salty, vegan coconut bacon bits are made with two ingredients: tamari and coconut flakes. It is so easy to make these tasty vegan bacon bits out of coconut flakes seasoned with tamari.

The vegan bacon bits recipe is low fodmap, gluten-free, vegan, healthy, and delicious.

I love to add the coconut bacon bits to my salads, especially a vegetarian caesar salad. Mmm, so good! The vegan bacon bits are the perfect substitute for bacon as they are both salty and crunchy, precisely what I love about bacon bits.

Making vegan bacon bits is so much easier than cooking bacon, plus they last ages when stored in an airtight glass jar.

One of my favorite salads that I make is a caesar salad with fresh romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, a cashew Caesar dressing, and these vegan coconut bacon bits.

They also taste amazing with a leaf salad topped with freshly chopped vegetables of your choice, some nuts and seeds, and coconut bits. Sprinkle on top of a low fodmap green salad with a simple balsamic dressing that is super easy to make.

How to make coconut bacon bits

To make these vegan bacon bits measure 1 cup of coconut flakes on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Drizzle 1 tbsp of gluten-free tamari over the coconut flakes, then use your hands to mix all the coconut flakes in tamari sauce.

Bake in the oven for ten minutes at 180 degrees Celsius.

Remove the vegan bacon bits from the oven and let them cool before storing in a glass jar.

It is easy to burn this coconut bacon bits recipe, so be sure to set a timer for 10 minutes and remove from the oven to cool. You can even check them at 8 minutes to see how fast they are cooking.

Once cooled, the coconut bacon bits are perfectly crunchy. I leave them as flakes, but you can also use a knife to chop into smaller chunks if you want a bacon bits consistency.

I also love to sprinkle the coconut bacon bits on top of this dairy-free chicken pot pie soup. If your vegetarian omit the chicken and add the vegan bacon bits.

Enjoy!
