The Best Cherry Smoothie for Weight Loss with Cacao

January 29, 2022 by Amber

chocolate cherry smoothie

This cherry smoothie for weight loss with cacao is a nutritious breakfast smoothie full of antioxidants, fiber, fats, protein, and carbohydrates. It is naturally sweet with a touch of tang from plain yogurt and creamy from the banana and oats.

The first time I made a cherry smoothie with banana, I found it quite sweet and needed something more. And that’s when a chocolate cherry smoothie came to mind. Something about dark cherries combined with cocoa powder seemed like a good idea. And I was right!

My now big baby girl loved this chocolate cherry banana smoothie and was impatiently salivating for it as I made it. While she loves most of my smoothies, this one was a winner in her books.

Benefits of this chocolate cherry smoothie for weight loss

This cherry smoothie for weight loss is packed with antioxidants, protein, essential fatty acids, and fiber for gut health, satiety and blood sugar control.

I used a low-fat plain yogurt in this chocolate cherry smoothie to add a touch of creaminess plus yogurt is a great source of vitamin B2 and B12. These two nutrients can be more challenging to obtain on a vegetarian diet.

As I eat a primarily plant-based vegetarian diet, I like to include yogurt in my diet as a source of vitamin B2 and B12. These two nutrients are essential for optimal methylation and thus a healthy liver and gallbladder to help prevent SIBO. Learn about the connection between MTHFR and SIBO here 😊 and why you need these nutrients.

Cherries are one of the top antioxidant-rich fruits. Intensely pigmented red fruits and vegetables are fantastic for cleansing the lymphatic system. The potent pigments in cherries are excellent for reducing inflammation and scavenging free radicals in the body. Anyone looking for healthy cherry smoothies for weight loss will also love the cherry beet smoothie that is amazing for liver detox.

Hemp seeds are so nutritious, and I use them almost daily in smoothies, oatmeal, or sprinkled on salads. They are also an excellent source of plant-based protein and essential fatty acids.

Flaxseeds also contain high amounts of anti-inflammatory omega-three fats and are also high in magnesium. Most people do not obtain enough magnesium or omega-three fats in their diet, so be sure to add ground flax seeds to your smoothies to amp up your intake of magnesium and omega-three fats.

Oats provide satiety to make this the best cherry breakfast smoothie to start your day with. Plus, oats are an excellent source of iron, magnesium, phosphorus, and manganese, along with vitamin B1, folate, and pantothenic acid. B vitamins and magnesium are essential for energy production, and manganese is the co-factor for the SOD enzyme ( the bodies powerful antioxidant enzyme that combats inflammation in the body)

Cocoa powder is super nutritious and in magnesium and antioxidants. Satisfy the chocolate craving with zero guilt when you use raw cocoa powder mixed with the natural sugars in bananas and cherries to make the best chocolate cherry smoothie for weight loss.

Inflammation and magnesium deficiency are underlying causes of weight gain. This cherry smoothie is full of antioxidants to reduce inflammation and is a great source of magnesium due to the cocoa and banana. The fiber provides satiety to promote weight loss and helps to regulate blood sugar levels.

Are cherries good for weight loss?

Cherries are an excellent fruit for weight loss primarily due to the anthocyanins found in cherries that reduce inflammation and oxidative stress. Cherries have also decreased HbA1C and blood lipids in diabetic women and prevented.

Cherry extracts rich in anthocyanins decreased liver triglycerides and prevented the development of nonalcoholic fatty liver in mice fed a high fad diet. A fatty liver is another underlying cause of weight gain. Thus, the ability of cherry extracts to prevent fatty liver is beneficial for weight loss.
