Kale and Blueberry Smoothie for Fatty Liver

November 27, 2019 by Amber

This kale and blueberry smoothie for fatty liver is nutritious and great for liver health and fatty liver disease as kale and blueberries are phenomenal foods to scavenge free radicals and reduce oxidative damage. Start your day with this kale blueberry smoothie for weight loss and gut health.

The natural fiber in kale, blueberries and chia seeds is excellent for gut health, as they contain prebiotics to feed the beneficial bacteria in the gut. Hemp seeds, chia seeds, and a tablespoon of the vanilla-flavored metabolic detox complete protein powder are added to provide essential plant-based omega-3s, protein, and healthy carbs.

It is one of the best smoothies for fatty liver and weight loss, especially with the addition of metabolic detox protein powder, which contains essential nutrients for optimal liver detox, including milk thistle. The metabolic detox protein powder adds a touch of extra sweetness and nutrients required for energy production and healthy liver function, so you feel light and energized!

Cruciferous vegetables such as kale support the body’s natural detoxification systems. Oxidative stress is an underlying cause of non-alcoholic fatty liver. Intracellular superoxide species are associated with liver injury.

The superoxide dismutase enzyme has a vital role in reducing superoxide species. Dietary supplementation of blueberries has been shown to enhance superoxide dismutase activity, and this is one mechanism in which blueberries are beneficial for preventing fatty liver by reducing inflammation.

I eat lots of blueberries and antioxidant-rich foods as I have genetic SNP in the SOD gene and a reduced ability to eliminate superoxide species. For this reason, I eat foods high in antioxidants, such as blueberries and kale, which are among the best foods to make a detox smoothie to support optimal liver health.

Tips and substitutions

  • To make a kefir kale blueberry smoothie for fatty liver you can substitute almond milk for kefir. It will change the overall taste of the smoothie, but a study done in mice shows positive benefits of kefir for improving fatty liver. Intake of oral kefir for four weeks in mice decreased the liver’s triglyceride and total cholesterol content. Kefir also reduces the expression of the enzyme fatty acid synthase, thus inhibiting the formation of new fat in the liver.
  • Adding a probiotic that contains bifidobacteria is another great option to make the best smoothie for fatty liver. A study in rats found that consuming blueberry juice and bifidobacteria improved fatty liver more than just blueberry juice, as bifidobacteria have strong antioxidant properties. The blueberry juice and bifidobacteria reduced liver injury and improved barrier functions and antioxidant activity.
  • Adding a teaspoon of sunflower lecithin powder, which contains phosphatidylcholine, to support the PEMT gene can help prevent fatty liver by promoting the export of fat out of the liver. People with SNPs in the PEMT gene have an increased risk of developing fatty liver, especially along with nutritional deficiencies.

Kale and blueberry smoothie benefits

If you have weight loss goals, this nutritious smoothie made with anti-inflammatory foods will help provide your body with the micronutrients your liver needs to detox effectively and reduce free radical damage. A healthy liver is crucial to weight loss so your body can safely eliminate toxins released from adipose cells when fat is used for energy.

Additional benefits of this smoothie include supporting the MTHFR gene with natural folate in leafy greens and kale.

Blueberries are one of the best fruits for reversing insulin resistance. They are one of the highest antioxidant-rich fruits effective for reducing oxidative stress and are high in vitamin K, manganese, and vitamin c. Manganese is to co-factor for the SOD gene, which helps to boost the body’s internal antioxidant production.

The intake of blueberry juice and Bifidobacterium decreased liver enzymes while promoting antioxidant activity. Blueberries also prevent fat accumulation in the liver, so this kale and blueberry smoothie for fatty liver is a must-try. It is a healthy smoothie for fatty liver, with whole foods such as blueberries to reduce the risk of liver damage.

Kale is one of the best healthy greens for a liver cleanse. It is an excellent source of vitamins A, C, and K, along with folate, B6, and vitamin B2, and has been shown to help prevent inflammation.

Chia seeds are an excellent source of healthy fats to help balance blood sugar levels. They contain high amounts of essential and anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids, which are great for brain health and weight loss.

Omega-3 fats have been shown to reduce fat deposition in the liver, while saturated fats are associated with a greater risk of fat accumulating in the liver. This kale and blueberry smoothie for fatty liver is low in saturated fats yet contains the essential omega-3 fats.

The addition of metabolic maintenance metabolic detox protein powder supports the liver’s ability to detox optimally. It also contains choline, an essential nutrient for the PEMT gene and preventing fatty liver.

According to Cronometer this blueberry kale smoothie contains:

The fatty liver smoothie is low in calories yet high in micronutrients and liver-cleansing foods. Professor Roy Taylor used a very low-calorie diet to reverse fatty liver in type 2 diabetics. Losing weight and significantly decreasing caloric intake were crucial to reversing fatty liver quickly.

This low-calorie blueberry kale smoothie can be used as a meal replacement for a main meal to help you lose weight and thus reverse fatty liver. I highly recommend you read Roy Taylor’s book Life Without Diabetes if you have a fatty liver, are a type 2 diabetic, or want to lose weight fast.
