While I have taken many supplements over the years for different reasons, when things are going well, and I am not actively trying to fix anything specific, there are still a few supplements I consistently come back to.
Sunflower lecithin, omega-3, magnesium, and a multivitamin have become my simple baseline. These are the ones I keep in rotation to support overall health without overcomplicating things.
These were also the same supplements I relied on during pregnancy to help support stable blood sugar and meet increased nutrient demands. Many people are aware about the benefits of fish oil and omega 3 fats during pregnancy but choline demands increase during pregnancy as it is important for the development of the brain and nervous system.
So if you have ever wondered what vitamins to take daily, this is a simple place to start. Nothing extreme, just covering the basics in a way that feels sustainable.

#1 Lecithin for Liver Health
Ever since I learned about the benefits of phosphatidylcholine for liver health and experienced its benefits for improving bile flow, phase 3 liver detox, and overall gut health support, I have always kept lecithin stocked in my cupboards. Depending on how I am feeling and how my fasting blood sugar is, I will take it daily if I am being on top of my supplements, or at least once or twice a week.
My primary reason for taking lecithin is for the phosphatidylcholine to support the PEMT gene by supplying the end product and taking some of the load off the methylation cycle. This can be beneficial for anyone with SNPs in the methylation pathway, such as the MTHFR gene. The methylation cycle produces SAMe, which is used for many processes in the body, including the PEMT gene to produce phosphatidylcholine.
Taking phosphatidylcholine directly can help reduce the demand on SAMe, allowing it to be used for other important processes in the body, such as histamine metabolism via the HNMT enzyme and supporting the COMT enzyme, which helps break down stress-related neurotransmitters like adrenaline and norepinephrine.
Phosphatidylcholine also plays an important role in liver function by helping transport fats out of the liver. Supporting a healthy liver, free of fat buildup, is an important part of maintaining blood sugar balance.
Lecithin has many health benefits, however it is higher in omega-6 fats. Because of this, I always pair it with a fish oil or plant based omega 3 supplement whenever I take lecithin or Optimal PC to help maintain the essential balance between omega-6 and omega-3 fats.
#2 Omega-3 Benefits
Omega-3 fats have many health benefits, and I personally don’t convert the plant based form ALA into EPA and DHA as well as other people may. Because of this, it is one of the daily vitamins that I take to help maintain overall health.
EPA and DHA are the active forms of omega-3 fats that the body actually uses, and they have been well studied for their role in reducing inflammation, supporting heart health, and supporting brain function.
Omega-3 fats also help balance higher omega-6 intake from foods and supplements such as sunflower lecithin. Maintaining this balance is important for managing inflammation.
I often take a plant-based omega-3 by Nature’s Way, as I have always been able to find it at my local health food store. However, when ordering online, I also like using Seeking Health’s fish oil for a more direct source of EPA and DHA.
#3 Magnesium – One OF The Best Vitamins TO Take Daily
I always have magnesium stocked in my cupboard, and it’s one of those supplements I feel like I can never get enough of.
Magnesium is one of the most common nutrient deficiencies, especially with modern diets. It is required for glucose metabolism, meaning your body uses magnesium whenever it processes carbohydrates and sugar.
Because of this, a higher intake of refined carbs and sugar can actually deplete magnesium levels over time. When these foods replace magnesium rich whole foods, it creates a cycle where intake is lower, but demand is higher, making deficiency even more likely.
Magnesium is also needed for muscle relaxation and helps calm the nervous system. It helps regulate stress related neurotransmitters, which is why it can support better sleep and help the body wind down.
Relieving tight muscles, supporting glucose metabolism for blood sugar balance, and helping the body better handle stress are all reasons I include magnesium on my daily vitamin list.
Magnesium is involved in over 300 functions in the body, including:
- Energy production
- Muscle relaxation
- Nervous system regulation
- glucose metabolism
I personally like the magnesium glycinate form best, as it is well absorbed and gentle on digestion, and it is what I typically look for at my local health food store.
#4 Multivitamin for covering the essentials
Last but not least, I take a multivitamin to help cover my essential bases. I use a multivitamin more as a backup to help fill any gaps in my diet.
To be honest, I never take a multivitamin daily except when I was pregnant. Now I usually take one at least once per week and up to three times depending on how on top of things I am. I think of my multivitamin as my health insurance, covering my essential bases.
Even though I focus on eating a nutrient dense diet, I am not perfect, and it can be difficult to consistently get all the specific nutrients your body needs every day. This is where a multivitamin can serve as a simple form of daily support for vitamins and minerals. Taking one a few times a week when I remember helps me feel like I am keeping my bases covered.
However, not all multivitamins are equal. The forms of vitamins and minerals matter, and some are much better absorbed than others. Some people do well with the highly touted methylated forms of B vitamins, while others may not tolerate them. This is very individual.
I personally do not do well with even the methylated forms, which is why the only multi I have taken for years now is the methyl-free prenatal by Seeking Health. Just because it says prenatal does not mean it is only for women. It is essentially a multivitamin designed to meet higher nutrient demands and can also be beneficial for adults by supporting the body’s daily essential functions.
The goal is not to rely on a multivitamin to replace a healthy diet, but to use it as support when needed. This post is all about what to look for in a multivitamin.
These 4 daily vitamins have been on my core list for years now and are what I focus on taking when I am not working on anything specific, but instead just want to support overall health.
I have found that keeping things simple and consistent with the basics goes a long way. Supporting liver function and bile flow, balancing omega-3 and omega-6 fats, making sure I am getting enough magnesium, and covering any gaps with a multivitamin all play a role in how I feel day to day.
These are not meant to replace a nutrient-dense diet, but rather to support it. When your body has what it needs to properly digest fats, regulate blood sugar, manage stress, and support energy production, everything tends to function a little more smoothly.
If you are trying to figure out what vitamins to take daily, starting with a simple routine like this can be a great place to begin. From there, you can always adjust based on your own needs, how you feel, and what your body is asking for.
At the end of the day, it does not have to be complicated. Focusing on a few key vitamins to take daily is often more effective than trying to do everything all at once.

Thanks for your always interesting messages.
Can you recommend a good brand of leci?
Thanks in advance.
Hi Maggie, I’m assuming you mean a brand of lecition? My top recommedation would be optimal PC by Seeking Health, they are a high quality supplement brand that I trust. I also take Now Foods Lecithin just because it is more affordable and I can get it at my local healthfood store. However if I am ordering online I prefer the Optimal PC by Seeking Health :)
