Cinnamon Apple Oatmeal for Babies with Hemp Seeds and Peanut Butter

March 15, 2022 by Amber

apple oatmeal for babies

This apple oatmeal for babies is refined sugar-free yet delicious and naturally sweetened with blended apple and prunes. It is full of healthy carbs, fats, and protein for a balanced meal to keep your baby or toddler full for hours.

Anyone looking for oatmeal recipes for babies or toddlers will love this baby oatmeal recipe with cooked oats in a blended apple, cinnamon, prune, peanut butter, and hemp seed puree.

The apple cinnamon oatmeal for babies is suitable for babies six months and older. Oatmeal is a great first food for babies and scores a 4/5 nutritional rating from solid starts. Plus, the addition of apple, peanut butter, and hemp seeds boosts the nutrition of this baby oatmeal recipe.

I used rolled oats in this apple oatmeal for babies as I only had them in the cupboard, and my baby girl is now 11 months into all sorts of solids and textures. If your baby is starting on solids, you can use the quick oats instead, which yields a smoother texture for younger babies.

Quick oats cook in 1-2 minutes whole rolled oats cook in 3-5 minutes, so you will need to adjust the cooking time depending on what type of oats you use.

This baby oatmeal recipe has a thick texture, which is excellent for babies and toddlers learning to self-feed. When serving, you can add more almond milk if your little one doesn’t like it so thick.

I enjoy this apple oatmeal recipe with my girl, but I add more almond milk and chopped walnuts to my oatmeal.

The inspiration for this apple oatmeal for babies and toddlers came from this apple banana oatmeal smoothie that is so yummy. The days are starting to get chilly in the morning where I live, so while I love smoothies for breakfast, I wanted a healthy breakfast that was warm to enjoy on a cold morning. Have to warm up those little bellies!

I grew up eating oatmeal for breakfast almost every day, and I can see why my mom chose to feed us kids oatmeal. It is nutritious, easy to make, and budget friendly. But I must say I lost my taste for oatmeal after having it so often growing up, but since I have my daughter, it is now back on the breakfast menu with some extra spice and flavor!

My girl LOVES this apple cinnamon oatmeal for babies, especially the apple puree sauce with peanut butter and hemp seeds.

Benefits of this apple oatmeal for babies and toddlers

The apple oatmeal is one of the best oatmeal recipes for babies as it is delicious and full of healthy carbohydrates, fat, protein, and vital nutrients for growing toddlers. Straight oatmeal with apple sauce is high in carbohydrates, so I added hemp seeds and peanut butter for fats and protein to yield a balanced breakfast.

Oats are a fantastic breakfast food for babies and toddlers as they are full of essential nutrients, including folate, B1, B5, iron, magnesium, zinc, manganese, copper, and phosphorus.

Peanut butter is an excellent source of magnesium which many people are deficient in. Peanuts are a common allergen for babies and toddlers, so be prepared to introduce peanut butter to your baby if it is their first few times trying peanut butter. If your baby or toddler is allergic to peanuts, omit them from the recipe or substitute for another nut butter such as almond butter.

Hemp seeds are one of my superfoods and contain all the essential amino acids and fatty acids vital for optimal growth and health. Plus, hemp seeds contain important nutrients, including vitamin E, magnesium, manganese, iron, and zinc.

Tips for making the oatmeal baby food recipe

Bring half a cup of water to a boil in a pot over medium heat, add ½ a cup of rolled oats, and cook the oats until all the water is absorbed. Stir the oats occasionally while cooking. The oats will take anywhere from 3-5 minutes to cook.

While the oats are cooking, chop an apple, then place in a high-speed blender with a dash of cinnamon, almond milk, hemp seeds, peanut butter, and prunes. Blend until smooth.

Add the blended apple puree to cooked oats and stir, then serve in your bubs favorite bowl! If desired, add additional almond milk.
