April 27, 2021 by Amber

apple banana smoothie

This apple banana smoothie for weight loss tastes like dessert in a cup. The best bit is this apple pie smoothie recipe is packed full of healthy carbohydrates, is refined sugar-free, and is excellent for weight loss and gut health. The natural sweetness of fresh fruits perfectly sweetens this smoothie that can be enjoyed on a hot day as an easy breakfast or afternoon snack.

It’s made with whole food ingredients, including fresh apples and bananas, and is a great way to start your day as it is easy to make and so delicious. Blend all the ingredients in a high-speed blender with some ice cubes, and you have one of the best smoothies for weight loss.

The banana apple smoothie for weight loss is the ultimate breakfast smoothie to keep you full and satiated for a busy or active day. It contains oatmeal, making a thicker smoothie that is perfectly creamy when combined with a banana.

The addition of peanut butter makes this smoothie ultra-creamy and filling. Peanut butter combined with banana and apple is so yummy. Healthy fats provide long-lasting energy for the active person needing ample fuel for the day.

This apple banana smoothie is naturally sweetened with cinnamon, dates, and the natural sugars found in the ripe banana and red apples for the best-tasting apple banana oat smoothie for weight loss.

Benefits of this apple banana smoothie for weight loss

The fiber from the flax seeds, bananas, apples, and oats is excellent for gut health and weight loss.

Fiber is essential for a healthy gut as it fuels the microbiome. In the colon and promotes healthy bowel movements.

Fiber also slows down glucose absorption into the bloodstream, which helps maintain normal blood sugar levels. High-fiber foods are the best food to lower blood sugar levels and promote weight loss, as fiber contains zero calories yet helps to make you feel full.

This apple and banana smoothie for weight loss is full of fiber to slow down the absorption of the natural sugars found in carbohydrates. It is spiced with cinnamon which has been shown to reduce blood sugar levels and improve insulin sensitivity. You can’t go wrong with adding more cinnamon to this apple banana smoothie recipe.

I added hemp seeds for plant-based protein and flax seeds for omega-3 fatty acids. Your macronutrient bases are covered with this apple banana smoothie for weight loss that is vegan and nutritious.

Optional additions and substitutions

While this apple banana smoothie tastes like the best healthy apple pie and is perfect, you can still tweak and modify ingredients if necessary.

Choose your apple – I used red apples in this banana apple smoothie as they are sweeter than a green apple, but a granny smith apple would also taste delicious.

Sub peanut butter for almond butter or any seed butter of your choice. While I used peanut butter in this smoothie recipe, you can also use almond butter which tastes just as good. Peanuts are a common food sensitivity for many people that can cause inflammation and weight gain. If you have a peanut intolerance and want to reach or maintain a healthy weight, use almond butter instead.

Add protein powder or collagen: For extra protein, add a scoop of pea protein powder or collagen powder, which blends perfectly with this smoothie. There are many protein powders on the market these days, but I love plain pea protein powder and collagen due to their neutral flavor that doesn’t overtake the smoothie flavor as sweetened protein powders do.

Choose your nut milk – I used a cup of unsweetened almond milk, but you can use any plant-based milk, such as oat milk or cashew milk. For weight loss purposes, I would avoid cow milk, dairy products, and soy milk as they are common food sensitivities. It is essential to avoid your food sensitivities for weight loss.

Add chia seeds – chia seeds are great for weight loss as they are high in fiber and omega-3 fats for weight loss and protein. They are the top superfoods I love putting in my smoothies alongside flax and hemp seeds. These three seeds are always a staple in my kitchen.

Add a sweetener – I chose to keep this apple banana smoothie refined sugar-free, but if you prefer a sweeter smoothie, you can add natural sweeteners such as this date syrup, maple syrup, or honey.

It only takes five minutes to make this smoothie which is perfect for busy individuals and is one of my favorite healthy smoothie recipes with many health benefits. Hop into the kitchen and measure all the ingredients into a high-powered blender to make this delicious smoothie that tastes like apple pie. Mmm. Enjoy!
