Spirulina Smoothie Bowl for Weight Loss – Vegan & Low Fat

March 25, 2022 by Amber

spirulina smoothie bowl

The color of this spirulina smoothie bowl says it all in the deep green color full of liver cleansing phytonutrients to promote weight loss and liver detox. Green plant foods, including spirulina and spinach, are rich in chlorophyll and are among the best foods to cleanse the liver.

This spirulina bowl is vegan, low fat, and subtly sweet from the mango. I like to serve the green spirulina smoothie bowl topped with granola and hemp seeds for a textured crunch.

The easy spirulina bowl contains six ingredients:

  • Spirulina
  • Spinach
  • Mango
  • Zucchini
  • Hemp seeds
  • Almond milk

The combination of mango and zucchini yields an ultra-creamy texture similar to mousse, yet it is super healthy. I love adding spirulina and vegetables to my morning smoothie to boost my vegetable intake and start my day feeling light and energized.

I made this spirulina smoothie bowl recipe without banana as I enjoy the mild sweetness of mango combined with spirulina, zucchini, and spinach. If you prefer a sweeter smoothie, you can add a banana to sweeten the spirulina bowl.

Benefits of this green spirulina smoothie bowl

Spirulina is one of the best plant-based protein sources. If you are vegan, include foods high in plant protein, such as spirulina and hemp seeds!

Spirulina consumption has been shown to promote weight loss and lower blood lipids, which is beneficial for overweight people with type two diabetes.

There are many more benefits of spirulina including antiviral, antioxidant, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, liver protective and immune-boosting properties.

Green vegetables such as zucchini and spinach are the best foods to lower blood sugar levels for weight loss. High blood sugar levels and high triglycerides in the blood are associated with weight gain and diabetes.

The anti-oxidants in green vegetables and spirulina help reduce inflammation which is an underlying cause of weight gain. For weight loss, this spirulina smoothie bowl is free of common food sensitivities that cause weight gain, such as dairy, gluten, soy, peanuts, and refined sugar.

Both hemp seeds and spirulina are excellent magnesium sources, an essential mineral to prevent obesity and maintain healthy blood sugar levels.

Starting your day with a light, low-fat breakfast such as this green spirulina smoothie bowl is fantastic to provide your body with micronutrients and energy yet is easy to digest, allowing your body to focus on detoxification.

When we are constantly consuming food, our body is thus always in assimilation and absorption mode, and the detoxification cycle is cut short by eating a sizeable high-fat breakfast. I love starting my day with a light smoothie bowl to provide me with energy yet still allows my liver and body to focus on detoxification which is crucial for optimal health.

Every time we eat, waste is produced, and we need to endure that we provide our bodies with the time and nutrients required for detoxification.

Enjoy this spirulina smoothie bowl that is great for weight loss, anti-inflammatory and cleansing for the liver!

Hi, what other fruit would you suggest with this if mango isn’t an option (I’m allergic? Can you sub soy or coconut water for almond milk? Thanks!

I haven’t tried this smoothie bowl with another fruit, although I imagine pineapple would be tasty as well 🙂 and yes, you can substitute soy or coconut water for almond milk. The flavor may differ slightly, but I’m sure it will still be yummy!
