The low fodmap ice cream recipe is made with pecans, maple syrup, banana, vanilla extract, collagen powder, hemp seeds, and nutmeg. It is the perfect low fodmap dessert to enjoy by itself or with low fodmap fruits.
The main ingredient in this low fodmap ice cream is bananas which are low fodmap according to Monash University, in a serving size of 1 firm medium banana. Be sure not to use overripe bananas as they will be high in the fructan fodmaps, even in the same serving size.

Banana ice cream is such a healthy treat to satisfy a sweet tooth craving. I added hemp seeds and collagen powder to amp up the protein content of the ice cream, along with some pecans to create the best dairy-free ice cream for people with irritable bowel syndrome and lactose intolerance.
Adding vanilla extract and a dash of nutmeg with the banana makes the most yummy banana nut ice cream.
This low fodmap ice cream is made in a food processor, so you don’t even need an ice cream maker. You can even use this base recipe and add any low fodmap frozen fruit to the food processor to make any fruit-flavored low fodmap ice cream such as strawberry ice cream or blueberry ice cream.
The ideas are endless on the variety of spices and flavors you can add to this fodmap friendly ice cream recipe.
I recently just learned how to make the best dairy free and sugar free ice cream at home, which I have been enjoying almost daily with my toddler as it’s a healthy treat.
Unfortunately, that recipe is high fodmap as it contains dates, but the base of the recipe was too good not to tweak to make a dairy free ice cream that people with IBS or lactose intolerance can still enjoy!
Traditional ice cream contains the lactose fodmap, which many people with IBS cannot tolerate. However, some people can cheat and take lactase enzyme drops with dairy products that contain lactose and be fine.
Regardless I wanted to make a healthy lactose-free ice cream that people with IBS can eat as life is too short not to indulge in ice cream every once in a while, especially when it is made with nutritious ingredients such as banana, hemp seeds, and pecans.
When the pecans, hemp seeds, and spices are blended with banana, it yields the best creamy ice cream. A splash of vanilla extract results in a low fodmap vanilla ice cream that everyone will love. And if you are a chocolate fan, you can add some dark chocolate when processing the ice cream in the food processor.
So, if you are craving a delicious and gut-friendly ice cream that won’t upset your stomach, you must make this low fodmap banana ice cream free of high fodmap ingredients.
It is one of the best tasting and healthy low fodmap ice cream recipes that is dairy free and the perfect frozen treat. Although be sure to watch your portion size as bananas are high in fodmaps when you eat more than one banana at a time.
Low fodmap ice cream ingredients:

- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 2 tbsp chopped pecans
- 3 tbsp hemp seeds
- 4 scoops Organika collagen powder

Step 1: Freeze the bananas
Peel the bananas and chop them in half and place them on a tray or in a bag to freeze. Freeze them for at least 2 hours or until they are completely frozen.

Once the bananas are frozen, take them out of the freezer and place them in the food processor with maple syrup, nutmeg, chopped pecans, hemp seeds, vanilla extract, and Organika collagen powder.
Step 3: Blend Until Smooth
Start blending the ingredients in the food processor. You may need to stop and scrape down the sides of the bowl occasionally. Continue processing until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy.
Step 5: Adjust Sweetness
Taste the ice cream mixture and adjust the sweetness if desired. You can add more maple syrup if you prefer a sweeter flavor.
Step 6: Serve or Store
Transfer the low fodmap banana nut ice cream into a bowl and enjoy it immediately as soft-serve ice cream. You can also freeze any extra ice cream into ice cube trays and food process again later if you have any leftovers.

Serving tips and substitutions
If you are on a strict low fodmap diet, you will need to practice portion control and be sure only to eat one serving at a time to avoid triggering IBS symptoms. This banana ice cream yields three low fodmap servings, which is a small portion size once the bananas are blended.
You can also add any low fodmap frozen fruit, such as pineapple or blueberries, to the food processor to make various flavors. Although the banana with nuts, vanilla, and nutmeg is delicious and one of my favorite ice creams.
Serve on its own or with additional chopped nuts, fresh fruits, and hemp seeds for extra texture and crunch!
Nutritional benefits of this low fodmap banana ice cream
Most store bought ice cream contains high fructose corn syrup and lactose, which are likely to cause IBS symptoms and belly aches, especially if you have SIBO or a dairy intolerance. Plus, the combination of high fat and high sugar foods containing high fructose corn syrup are the worst foods for weight loss and fatty liver.
I formulated this low fodmap ice cream to contain lower amounts of fat, ample protein, and healthy carbohydrates. You could even omit the maple syrup, as the banana and nutmeg are naturally sweet.
According to cronometer a serving size of the vegan banana ice cream, which is 1/3 of the full recipe, contains:
- 228 calories
- 11 grams protein
- 28 grams carbohydrates
- 9 grams fat
Since the banana ice cream contains three bananas, divide the recipe into three portions and only eat one portion at a time.
Collagen powder and hemp seeds are added for extra protein in the banana ice cream and make it extra creamy! The ice cream contains all the essential amino acids, and collagen powder is excellent for gut health, joint support, healthy hair, skin, and nails.
The dairy free ice cream recipe is also a great source of vitamins and minerals, including zinc, potassium, phosphorus, manganese, copper, vitamin C, B6, B1, and B2.
Indulge in this delightful and gut-friendly ice cream without worrying about any FODMAP-related issues. It’s a perfect sweet treat for a hot day or whenever you desire a delicious dessert! Enjoy!
