Inflammation is also known as oxidative stress which is when there is an imbalance between the production of free radicals and the ability of the body to neutralize the free radicals with antioxidants.
If there are insufficient antioxidants available to neutralize free radicals oxidative stress builds up which then inhibits many physiological functions in the body and causes tissue damage.
