Powerful Health Benefits of Molecular Hydrogen To Reduce Inflammation

December 25, 2019 by Amber

One of the primary health benefits of molecular hydrogen is its unique ability to reduce inflammation in the body. Inflammation and oxidative stress are considered underlying causes of many inflammatory diseases. Therefore decreasing inflammation in the body with molecular hydrogen can have immense health benefits with positive ripple effects throughout the entire body.

What is inflammation in the body?

Inflammation is also known as oxidative stress. There is an imbalance between free radicals production and the body’s ability to neutralize the free radicals with antioxidants.

If there are insufficient antioxidants available to neutralize free radicals, oxidative stress builds up, inhibiting many physiological functions in the body and causes tissue damage.

How molecular hydrogen reduces inflammation

One of the most damaging radicals in the human body is the hydroxyl radical, which is made up of one hydrogen and one oxygen with a neutral charge. When another hydrogen atom is added to the hydroxyl radical, it turns into water. That is the power of molecular hydrogen to reduce inflammation in the body.

Molecular hydrogen benefits are unique. It acts as a selective antioxidant and only reacts with the cell-damaging hydroxyl radical but not with other reactive oxygen species that have a physiological role in the body.

Molecular hydrogen is also #1 on the periodic table and is so tiny that it can go anywhere in the body and diffuse across membranes. Thus, molecular hydrogen can reach and react with the cell-damaging hydroxyl radical, making molecular hydrogen an effective antioxidant that protects cells against cytotoxic (cell-damaging) reactive oxygen species.

Molecular hydrogen benefits for gut health and reducing inflammation

Having a healthy microbiome in the gut is also vital for producing hydrogen. A well-functioning healthy microbiome creates a lot of hydrogen that continuously supplies the rest of the body with hydrogen to act as antioxidants.

Anaerobic bacteria produce hydrogen in the gut, but antibiotics kill off the good anaerobic bacteria that produce hydrogen resulting in an impaired antioxidant system and decreased ability to make the hydrogen. Inflammation increases when there is insufficient molecular hydrogen to balance and neutralize cell-damaging reactive oxygen species.

Once again, addressing gut health is crucial for reducing inflammation in the body. Isn’t it amazing how different body systems are connected and designed to have an antioxidant hydrogen-producing microbiome for our benefit?

Unfortunately, not all problems are solved with antibiotics. The excessive use of antibiotics can disrupt the microbiome’s ability to produce hydrogen in the quantities needed to protect us from the cell-damaging reactive oxygen species.

A healthy microbiome requires a wide variety of fiber in the diet to provide the fuel and fiber for the hydrogen-producing bacteria to ferment upon the various starches and fibers to produce hydrogen as a by-product. A processed food, fiber deficient diet is also disrupting gut bacteria’s ability to produce hydrogen and protect us from oxidative stress.

If the gut is not producing enough hydrogen, oxidative stress will rise.

By taking molecular hydrogen tablets, you can reduce inflammation in the body by neutralizing the hydroxyl radical that causes tissue damage.

For anyone who has increased hydroxyl radicals causing tissue damage and inflammation, molecular hydrogen can work wonders. Still, for someone who does not have raised hydroxyl radicals, they may not notice any difference as molecular hydrogen works as a selective antioxidant to neutralize the cell-damaging reactive oxygen species.

Inflammation in the population is a big problem. Depending on what organ is being affected by cell-damaging ROS, symptoms of inflammation will vary tremendously. Restoring a healthy microbiome to produce sufficient hydrogen while supplementing with molecular hydrogen tablets or hydrogen-rich water can reduce inflammation.

A primary health benefit of molecular hydrogen is to restore homeostasis between oxidation and reduction.

Supplementing with molecular hydrogen tablets and restoring the microbiomes ability to produce hydrogen is one of the best ways to reduce inflammation in the body.

Too much inflammation is damaging. Molecular hydrogen has the unique ability to reduce inflammation. Eating an anti-inflammatory diet high in fiber for gut health is one of the best ways to reduce inflammation naturally.
