This creamy and protein-packed banana and orange smoothie for weight loss is vegan, healthy, and the perfect refreshing summer recipe that is hydrating thanks to the addition of coconut water. The banana orange smoothie is the perfect breakfast, snack, or afternoon treat that tastes like an orange creamsicle, well, not really, but close enough.
It is super easy to make this orange smoothie for weight loss that is high in plant-based protein. Adding hemp seeds and a vanilla-flavored plant protein powder to smoothies is one of my favorite ways to boost the protein content in my homemade smoothies.
The orange smoothie for weight loss is made with no added sugar yet is perfectly sweet from the banana, coconut water, and orange. I also love the vanilla-flavored Botanica Perfect Protein Powder, as it is naturally sweetened with monk fruit juice powder and does not have the overpowering artificial sweet flavor that so many flavored protein powders have. Monk fruit is among the best natural sweeteners for weight loss and people with type 2 diabetes.

I added hemp seeds to make the smoothie even more creamy and satisfying with the essential fatty acids. Hemp seeds are also a highly sustainable protein source that is good for the climate and environment as hemp seeds are sustainable, and the plant is excellent at extracting CO2 levels from the air to combat climate change.
So yes, I love adding hemp seeds to my smoothies, including this delicious and nutritious banana orange smoothie that is smooth and creamy from the banana, hemp seeds, Botanica Perfect Protein, and almond milk. An orange adds the perfect amount of citrus flavor to this orange smoothie recipe.

Banana Orange Smoothie for Weight Loss Ingredients:
- 1 frozen banana: Adds natural sweetness and a creamy texture.
- 1 orange: For a burst of fresh, citrusy flavor.
- 1/2 cup coconut water: Hydrating and full of electrolytes.
- 4 ice cubes: To keep your smoothie refreshingly cool.
- 2 tbsp hemp seeds: A powerhouse of protein, healthy fats, and essential minerals.
- 10 grams vanilla-flavored plant protein powder: The vanilla Botanica Perfect Protein enhances the orange banana smoothie with a subtle vanilla flavor and a boost of natural sweetness that is perfect and not overpowering.
How to Make the Orange Banana Smoothie:
- Prepare your ingredients: Peel the orange and break it into segments. If your banana isn’t already frozen, peel and slice it, then pop it in the freezer for a few hours.
- Blend it up: In a high-speed blender, combine the frozen banana, orange segments, coconut water, ice cubes, hemp seeds, and plant protein powder.
- Blend until smooth: Use a high-powered blender, start at a low speed, and gradually increase to high, blending until all the ingredients are thoroughly combined, and the smoothie is silky smooth.
- Serve and enjoy: Pour your smoothie into a glass and enjoy it immediately.
Tips and Substitutions:
- I used the vanilla-flavored Botanica Perfect Protein in this orange smoothie for weight loss, as it has the perfect subtle vanilla flavor and natural sweetness. You can substitute it for any vanilla protein powder, but the flavor may vary depending on the brand you choose.
- Coconut water provides the ultimate refreshing smoothie, but you can also use any plant-based milk for a creamy orange-flavored smoothie, such as almond, cashew, or soy milk.
- Be sure to freeze the banana prior to blending to help chill and yield a thicker consistency.
- Hemp seeds provide a nutritional boost and help make a creamy smoothie with extra protein, but you can also substitute them with almonds or cashews.
Orange Banana Smoothie Benefits
- Nutrient-packed: This protein smoothie is rich in vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats from the orange, hemp seeds, and coconut water. It is exceptionally high in vitamin C and manganese. Vitamin C is among the top nutrients for optimal immune health, and manganese is the co-factor for the SOD enzyme (the body’s top anti-oxidant enzyme to break down damaging free radicals)
- High in protein: The hemp seeds and plant protein powder provide a protein boost, making it perfect for a post-workout snack or a quick breakfast.
- Energizing: Enjoy this smoothie anytime you crave something sweet and refreshing for a boost of natural energy to get you moving before your workout. This orange smoothie is a fantastic source of B vitamins and magnesium to support the production of ATP in the body so you can feel energized. Having the energy to move and workout is essential for achieving a healthy weight and body.
- High in fiber: Fresh oranges are much better to use than orange juice to make a smoothie; as a whole orange contains fiber to slow down glucose absorption into the bloodstream. Fiber also provides satiety, is excellent for gut health, and has zero calories. This healthy orange smoothie for weight loss has a total of 12 grams of fiber!
According to Cronomter, this orange smoothie contains:
