Treat yourself to this refreshing and nourishing strawberry banana smoothie bowl, which is thick, perfectly creamy, and easy to make. The healthy strawberry banana smoothie bowl is made with three simple ingredients: banana, strawberries, and soy milk. When these ingredients are blended together, the result is a delicious creamy smoothie bowl that is thick and tastes like strawberry ice cream that is healthy for you!

Enjoy this smoothie bowl with strawberry and banana by itself, or top it with some granola and fresh fruit for a crunchy texture. I often make this smoothie bowl for a healthy breakfast that is light and energizing or in the afternoon for a naturally sweet treat to enjoy with my daughter in the warm sunshine!

While I love all my smoothie recipes, lately, I have been craving the thick, creamy texture of smoothie bowls that can be eaten with a spoon and crunchy granola. Bananas and strawberries are one of my favorite fruit combinations for making a thick smoothie bowl with no added sugar.

The strawberry banana smoothie bowl is gluten-free, vegan, healthy, creamy, low fat, low calorie, and refined sugar-free. According to Cronometer (a fantastic app for tracking your nutritional and caloric intake), this banana strawberry smoothie bowl with no additional toppings contains 209 calories. Thus, it is a healthy, low-calorie smoothie bowl that is great for weight loss.

One key to successful weight loss and reversing fatty liver is eating a hypocaloric diet. Thus, finding healthy, low-calorie sweet treats to enjoy occasionally is crucial for losing weight healthily and enjoyably. Eating whole fruit is excellent for weight loss as these foods are low-calorie, high in water, and satisfy a sweet tooth.

The smoothie bowl with strawberry and banana contains the following macronutrients:

  • 6 grams protein
  • 37 grams carbohydrates
  • 3 grams fat

It is an excellent source of many B vitamins for energy production and is exceptionally rich in vitamin C.

Strawberry and Banana Smoothie Bowl Ingredients:

  • 1.5 cups frozen strawberries
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/3 cup soy milk

How to Make a Thick Strawberry and Banana Smoothie Bowl:

  1. Prepare Your Blender or food processor:
    • The key to making a thick smoothie bowl is to use a high-powered blender like a Vitamix with a tamper or a food processor and minimal liquid for best results. Both the banana and strawberries must be frozen to yield a thick texture.
  2. Add Ingredients:
    • Place the frozen strawberries, frozen banana, and soy milk into the blender.
  3. Blend:
    • Pulse the ingredients a few times, then start blending on low speed, gradually increasing to high. If the smoothie mixture stops blending, stop and scrape down the side of the blender, then start on low again. Continue blending while using the tamper to press the ingredients down towards the blades to help with blending.
    • If your blender doesn’t have a tamper, you may need to add a bit more liquid.
    • If using a food processor, you may need to occasionally stop and scrape down the sides. I make this strawberry banana smoothie bowl recipe in my Vitamix blender, but this Hamilton Beach food processor also works great to make this thick smoothie bowl.
  4. Achieve Desired Consistency:
    • Blend until the mixture is smooth and thick. It should be thick enough to eat with a spoon.
  5. Serve:
    • Pour the smoothie mixture into a bowl.
  6. Optional Toppings:
    • Add your favorite toppings, such as this easy low fodmap granola. I like to cut up some fresh strawberries and banana with granola for the best smoothie bowl toppings.

Tips and Substitutions:

  • To yield the best-tasting banana strawberry smoothie bowl, use a perfectly ripe banana and ripe strawberries to maximize the natural sweetness found in these fruits. If you prefer a sweeter smoothie bowl, you can add a touch of maple syrup.
  • You can add a couple more tablespoons of soy milk to help blend. If you want a thick smoothie bowl texture, be sure to use frozen fruit, and don’t add too much liquid. Instead, blend on low and push the fruit down the sides of the blender with a tamper to help blend with minimal liquid.
  • I chose to use soy milk because of its creamy texture, but any non-dairy milk, such as almond or oat milk, can be used to make a vegan smoothie bowl.
  • Top the smoothie bowl with hemp or chia seeds for healthy fats.
  • For a boost of protein, you can add a couple of scoops of unflavored collagen powder, which will not affect the taste or texture of the smoothie.
  • Add a tsp of vanilla extract or spice with a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg.

Indulge in this delicious strawberry and banana smoothie bowl, which is thick and creamy and the perfect healthy treat to enjoy on warm sunny days. According to the authors of Mastering Diabetes, low-fat recipes made with whole fruits are fantastic for reversing insulin resistance, as fruits are listed as green light foods. This book is a must read if you want to reverse insulin resistance while still eating fruits with natural sugar!
