Why Lactobacillus Rhamnosus is the Best Probiotic for SIBO and IBS

Lactobacillus rhamnosus and L reuteri are among the best probiotics for SIBO and can grow at a pH of 2.5, thus surviving the passage through the stomach. Both strains colonize in the small intestine, where they protect the epithelial cells, stimulate the immune system, and inhibit the growth of opportunistic bacteria that have overgrown in the small intestine.

Many people with SIBO do not tolerate probiotics as they already have an overgrowth of too many bacteria in the small intestine. Still, specific probiotics for SIBO, such as lactobacillus rhamnosus, are beneficial for SIBO. leaky gut and IBS.

In this study, lactobacillus rhamnosus was one of six probiotic strains administered to people with SIBO. SIBO disappeared in some people taking probiotics for SIBO, which included l rhamnosus, but none in the placebo group that did not receive probiotics had a reduction in SIBO.

Another amazing benefit of lactobacillus rhamnosus is its ability to reduce liver inflammation caused by alcohol. 2 weeks of lactobacillus rhamnosus supplementation reduced liver inflammation in mice by inhibiting inflammatory cytokine production. A healthy liver is crucial for optimal gut health and the prevention of SIBO, as the liver is responsible for making antimicrobial bile to prevent small intestinal bacterial overgrowth.

Supplementing with Lactobacillus rhamnosus has been shown to improve intestinal barrier function by increasing the expression of tight junction proteins in the intestine. A leaky gut is problematic in SIBO as endotoxins, undigested food, and bacteria can enter the body and stimulate the immune system, thus increasing inflammation. Healing a leaky gut is crucial for healing SIBO and optimizing gut health. Individuals with a leaky gut can take a Lactobacillus rhamnosus probiotic to help heal the leaky gut.

IBS and SIBO are intimately connected as SIBO is an underlying cause of IBS. In this study, the probiotics B longum and Lactobacillus rhamnosus reduced the severity of IBS symptoms, including abdominal pain and bloating.

Benefits of lactobacillus rhamnosus to reduce inflammation caused by LPS

Another reason why lactobacillus rhamnosus is one of the best probiotics for SIBO is due to its ability to reduce inflammation caused by the endotoxin lipopolysaccharide. The lipopolysaccharide endotoxin is produced by gram-negative bacteria and is very inflammatory. Lactobacillus rhamnosus can decrease inflammation caused by LPS which is problematic for many people with SIBO.

Lactobacillus rhamnosus is a gram-positive bacteria with anti-inflammatory activities and protective effects against damage caused by LPS. These gram-positive bacteria inhibit the growth of pathogenic gram-negative bacteria that produce inflammatory lipopolysaccharide.

L rhamnosus is one of the best probiotics for SIBO and IBS due to its ability to colonize the small intestine and reduce inflammation caused by LPS. The benefits of l rhamnosus to improve the function of the intestinal lining and reduce the severity of symptoms in individuals with IBS is unique to this specific probiotic strain.

Not all probiotics are beneficial for people with SIBO, but L rhamnosus demonstrates positive effects for many people with SIBO and IBS. L reuteri is another one of the best probiotics for SIBO as it produces an antimicrobial compound that inhibits the growth of bacteria in the small intestine.

Many People with SIBO do not tolerate broad-spectrum probiotics. They may even experience a worsening of SIBO symptoms, but lactobacillus rhamnosus and l reuteri are among the best probiotics for SIBO, with documented research on both strains.
