This post is my review of the ordinary vitamin c powder I am so glad I discovered and now use daily in my skincare routine. While I have been using the ordinary products for over a year now and love them, I only recently purchased the ordinary vitamin c powder, which is now my favorite vitamin c product.
If you have not heard of the ordinary, they are a great budget-friendly skincare line with active ingredients to target various skin concerns, which is why I love them.

After only using the vitamin c powder for one month, I noticed improvements in the texture of my skin as it felt softer to the touch. The ordinary L ascorbic acid powder is a great product to reduce the appearance of uneven skin tone and dark spots.
While I still need to use this product longer to see how much it evens my skin tone, it is working on lightening one darker sun-damaged spot on my forehead. Within three weeks of using the ordinary vitamin c powder, a sunspot became dry and started to flake off with healthier skin underneath. Vitamin c can also fade old acne scars.
Why I love the ordinary vitamin c powder
There are many vitamin c serum products on the market these days. Still, expensive vitamin c products don’t always mean better as pure l ascorbic acid is unstable and easily oxidized once mixed with other ingredients.
The pure powder form of l ascorbic acid by the ordinary can easily be mixed into water, aloe, a serum, or face cream you are already using. It is a very fine l ascorbic acid powder that blends with many of your existing face care products.
It only costs $10 for an entire container that lasts ages. The powder form of l ascorbic acid is an effective antioxidant that counters the effects of free radicals that cause damage and aging to the skin.
The form of l ascorbic acid used in the ordinary vitamin c powder is the most effective and studied form of vitamin c for the skin. Since it is in pure powder form, it is potent and highly effective as it has not oxidized.
Many vitamin c serums and creams are ineffective as the vitamin c has oxidized and lost its potency. Adding a small amount of the ordinary vitamin c powder to the palm of your hand to blend with a serum or face cream will provide your skin with a potent form of vitamin c.
Benefits of vitamin c
Vitamin c is one of the top active ingredients used in skin care products to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles resulting from the breakdown and loss of collagen. Vitamin c is required to produce collagen; thus, it reduces and prevents fine lines and wrinkles. Collagen also provides the skin with structural support, which is why vitamin c helps to improve skin tone.
It also stabilizes collagen fibers and prevents the breakdown of collagen. For this reason, it is one of the top active ingredients for antiaging.
Free radical damage leads to photoaging pigmentation, broken blood vessels, red skin, a coarse texture, and wrinkles. Vitamin c prevents and reverses these conditions by neutralizing oxidative stress that is the underlying root cause of these skin conditions.
The ordinary ascorbic acid powder is also great for reducing pigmentation as vitamin c inhibits the enzyme responsible for melanin formation that causes hyperpigmentation.
To sum it up, the primary benefits of vitamin c for the skin include:
- Skin lightening
- Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
- Improves skin tone and texture
- Prevents sun damage and pigmentation
You get your bang for your buck when you use a highly effective form of vitamin c for the skin, such as the ordinary vitamin c powder.
While I have used many vitamin c serums in the past, nothing has worked as well as pure l ascorbic acid powder by the ordinary.
How to use the ordinary vitamin c powder
The vitamin c powder is designed to be mixed with other serums, creams, or moisturizers, making it customizable to your skincare routine.
Use the scoop provided to add 1/4 to 1/8 scoop to the palm of your hand with your chosen serum or cream. Use your finger to blend the powder into the serum, then apply it to your face as usual.
Vitamin c powder is excellent for all skin types, but it is always a good idea to do a patch test before use and start with small amounts and build up as your skin builds tolerance. In the first 1-2 weeks of use start with 1/8th of a scoop then build up from there.
People with sensitive skin may notice a tingling sensation. If this occurs, reduce the amount used.
I have had quite sensitive and reactive skin in the past, yet I had no adverse side effects or tingling when using the pure l ascorbic acid powder. However, I did start with small amounts to allow my skin to adjust to this form of vitamin c for the skin and to build up my skin’s tolerance.
Vitamin c needs to be in a concentration of 10-20 percent to be effective, so when mixing the powder into your serums, try to eyeball 10-20 percent vitamin c powder to 80-90 percent serum or cream.
I mix about 1/8 to 1/4 of the very fine l-ascorbic acid powder with the scoop provided in the palm of my hand with 1/2 a tsp of a hydrating hyaluronic acid toner that is mostly water. It dissolves super easily, then I spread it all over my face and neck and let it dry into my skin.
If you want a high concentration of vitamin c and tolerate it well with no tingling sensation. You could premix 2 tsp of vitamin c powder in 10 tsp of water for a 20 percent concentration. For a 10 percent concentration, mix 1 tsp of vitamin c powder in 10 tsp of water and pour into a dark skincare dropper bottle.
Remember that once mixed with water, the l ascorbic acid quickly oxidizes, especially when exposed to oxygen and light.
Only make a small batch as it is best to use it within a week or two for the best results. Applying topical vitamin c is one of the best anti-aging strategies to slow down the signs of aging and enhance collagen production in the skin.
The ordinary l-ascorbic acid powder is my favorite vitamin c product I use daily in my morning routine.
I am so glad that I ran into the skincare esthetician at the shops who introduced me to this effective product that is inexpensive and effective.
