We all know that we should eat healthy but why is it so important? Simply put our bodies are made from the food we eat, therefor the quality of the food we eat and the nutrition contained within will determine how well our bodies function, how much energy we have to do the things we love and how we age. Approximately every 7 years each cell in our body renews/replaces itself. We literally have a whole new body every 7 years with some cells regenerating more frequently than that. This is the amazing regenerating and healing capacity of the body. The question is are you going to make your future cells from nutrient dense food or junk food?
Here are some reasons as to why you may want to eat healthy:
*Everybody wants to have energy in order to live a full life and get all the necessary daily activities accomplished. Healthy fats are calorie rich which equals more energy. I specifically love fats because they provide satiety and are slowly absorbed by the body offering a steady slow burning source of fuel. On the other hand refined carbohydrates and sugar often result in an energy spike followed by the crash leaving you hungry, irritable and in need of frequent meals. Think of fats as the slow burning logs that keeps a fire going for a long period of time and think of refined carbohydrates and sugar as kindling which provides a quick burst of flame but does not keep the fire going for long.
*Every cell membrane in your body is made up of a combination of fats including saturated fats. It is the cell membrane that allows for nutrients in and waste out and the proper function of it is very important
*Detoxification cleanses are very popular but more importantly than trying to do a fad cleanse I like to give the liver daily nutritional support from real foods. The liver is primarily responsible for detoxifying harmful and toxic substances and all of its detoxification pathways are dependent and run on a variety of nutrients found within nutrient dense food. Often times if the liver is not able to detoxify effectively the body will try to excrete them through the skin resulting in skin problems
*Protein is broken down into amino acids and is what the body uses to build its tissue from, such as muscle tissue. Amino acids are also used to make up hormones which are powerful chemical messengers and antibodies which the immune system uses to help to fight infection.
When we eat junk food it’s like dumping garbage inside our house…. It really doesn’t do much good. It is an extra burden to deal with, gets stinky and breeds bad bacteria. Eating excess sugar and refined carbohydrates is food for opportunistic organisms such as candida to overgrow and feeds pathogenic bacteria resulting in bacterial imbalances that can cause bloating and a host of other symptoms.
Often times, more than anything the reason why people want to be healthy is so that they FEEL confident and happy in their own skin which radiates out to the world around them. Your health, happiness and life is your responsibility therefor I encourage you to prioritize taking the time to care for yourself while finding your reasons as to why you would want to nourish your body with nutrient dense foods on a daily basis?!
