This DIY face cream with jojoba oil and aloe vera is the perfect homemade face cream recipe to use as a daily moisturizer. This easy to make DIY face cream with aloe vera and jojoba oil is hydrating yet light and great for oily skin but the face cream recipe can easily be made with an oil for anti-aging and dry skin as well.
I think it’s safe to say that all of us want to age gracefully. I know I do which is why I love natural, non-toxic yet effective skincare and learnt how to make face cream with aloe vera and jojoba. This DIY face cream is made with 4 simple ingredients that include aloe vera gel, jojoba seed oil, xanthan gum and collagen beauty. This homemade aloe vera and jojoba oil moisturizer is great for oily as the consistency is not to heavy and is great for a daily moisturizer.
After studying to become an advanced dermal skincare specialist and being exposed to many skincare lines I came to realize that while there are some great lines out there, so many of them are overpriced, filled with a lot of garbage (toxic ingredients) or maybe natural but not really effective due to them lacking active ingredients.
While there is no magic ingredient that will stop the aging process, there are some very nourishing ingredients that we can use on our skin to slow down the process.
The skin is also a reflection of a person’s internal health as it is the body’s largest organ and the one that we visually see. True changes in the skin are a result of both internal health and nourishing skincare with active ingredients to target your concerns.
Here's some examples of what your skin may be telling you.
Inflammation and redness in the skin can be due to food allergies, excess sugar, an over reactive immune system and anything that is irritating to the body.
Acne and or congested skin can be due to poor digestive function, a sluggish detoxification system or hormonal imbalances connected to puberty, stress, and excess sugar
Wrinkles are a combination of a breakdown of collagen (protein) and dehydration, so I would always ask the question, how is your hydration? Are you drinking enough water, getting your electrolytes and are you eating sufficient protein and properly digesting it? Optimal Liposomal Vitamin C is a great supplement to help the body build collagen in the skin.
Keep in mind as well that your skin will be one of the last places that your body sends nutrients as it has more important internal organs that it must nourish first.
True beauty that shines from the inside out is a result of internal health and happiness…. And hey we are all going to age. There is nothing wrong with lines of wisdom that tell a story.
and now for the DIY face cream
Below is my 4 ingredient DIY face cream made with aloe, jojoba oil, nutra organics collagen and xanthan gum. This jojoba face cream is super easy to make. All you need is an immersion blender and 2 sterile mason jars and a skincare bottle. This recipe makes approximately 125 ml and because this doesn’t have any preservatives be sure to use it up within a month or two.
Prior to adding in xanthan gum to the recipe I found that while I still loved DIY face cream it would often separate. Once I added in the xanthan gum it no longer separated and moisturizes much better. You also want to make sure that both the aloe and oil are at room temperature and the same temperature to ensure that they emulsify together.
DIY Face Cream with Jojoba and Aloe
5 tbsp jojoba oil (Now Foods Jojoba Oil)
5 tbsp aloe vera gel (Real Aloe Inc)
1 tsp nutra organics collagen beauty (with verisol and vitamin C)
¼ tsp xanthan gum (Now Foods Xanthan Gum)
How to make a face cream at home
*start by ensuring that the aloe and jojoba are at equal room temperature.
*In one mason jar measure the jojoba, xanthan gum and nutra organics collagen powder
*In another sterile mason jar or measuring cup place the aloe
*With a handheld immersion blender place it all the way to the bottom of the mason jar with the jojoba and start to blend. At the same and with your other hand start to SLOWLY pour in the aloe while you continue blending.
*Blend for approximately one minute or until you notice that the oil and aloe is fully emulsified and has turned a creamy white colour and has the consistency of mayo. I let my lotion sit for 5 minutes then give it another quick blend if I notice that it has started to separate at all. With the help of xanthan gum you should have a luxurious, moisturizing creamy DIY face cream that you have just made!
Pour into skincare bottle and give your skin some love!
This homemade aloe vera moisturizer is great for oily skin. I personally have oily skin so I use jojoba seed oil which is the closest oil to our bodies own natural sebum and is great for anyone with an oily skin complexion. You can substitute the jojoba oil or combine any two oils together to better suit you skin.
An argon oil can be more nourishing and great for someone with mature, dry skin. Other oils that I love include cold pressed rose hip seed oil, hempseed oil, sea buckthorn oil and avocado oil. Be sure to look for cold pressed oils and store in a dark bottle away from sunlight.
While this DIY face cream is fairly basic, the fun part starts with adding in your active ingredients suited to your skin concerns.
Here are some of my favorite skincare ingredients that really work.
Vitamin C – Needed to help make collagen and fill in those wrinkles. You want this in a 10% concentration. Make this simple DIY vitamin C serum with Optimal Liposomal Vitamin C
Hyaluronic Acid – This is a sugar molecule that our body produces but starts to diminish as we age. It hold approximately 1000 times its weight in water therefore it is great for hydration. Wrinkles are both a breakdown of collagen and dehydration.
Astaxanthin – This is a very powerful antioxidant which are needed by the body to combat free radical damage from UV rays, stress and exposure to environmental toxins.
These are some of my favorite active ingredients that I look for but there are many more. You can order these active ingredients from Skin Actives in Australia or Bulk Actives in the United states.
I personally make my own DIY vitamin C serum and love it underneath the aloe vera and joboba oil moisturizer recipe.
